
CrossFit Games 2021 will be taking place in a few weeks and many CrossFit Games participants are very excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. The competition for women
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski and Tia-Clair Toomey Orr won the first event. Koski won the overall competition after maintaining her lead all the way. Tall and Eramo O'Connell finished second and third, respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.
The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. Nine athletes are represented in the field, including a young Australian powerhouse who won last year's competition. Kara Saunders from Australia, who placed second in Australia and 11th globally in 2020 are other contenders. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. In addition to these athletes, the Women's competition will also feature a newcomer to the sport - Icelandan competitor Sara Sigmundsdottir, who won the first place medal in the World Crossfit Games earlier this year.
Pegboard contest
Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. It was added to the Games' summer Olympic program along with double-unders and dumbbell overhead squats. Toomey-Orr won 30 of the Games' most events, setting a new record. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. There were several tie in the contest but Toomey Orr's dominance was too strong to stop him winning.

Athletes train for the CrossFit Games by focusing on ten general physical fitness skills: cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, and agility. Competitors are tested on their grip strength and coordination in the Pegboard contest. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. While it's not as extreme or drastic as in previous Games, this year is very different. The competition consists of 15 individual events, so a first cut to 30 athletes is likely after the seventh or eighth event. One question that remains is how CrossFit will adjust the points distribution after cuts. It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.
The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. Major cuts are made in the first six events. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. The top 30 competitors then compete in the sprint couplet to determine which athlete is number ten. From there, the top 20 athletes compete in the remaining six events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They are designed to suit multiple fitness requirements. Reebok calls the shoe "the shoe of health," but it is more like a traditional trainer shoe. DuPont's Kevlar, which promotes durability, breathability, and strength, is the shoe's upper. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. Reebok has sponsored these Games for over a decade.
